Bio:

Born in New Jersey Futurian Wrote criticism under the pseudonym William Atheling Jr. Married to Virginia Kidd from 1947 to 1963, then from 1964 until his death to Judith Ann Lawrence. Moved to England in 1969. Died on the 30th of July of 1975 and is buried in Oxford. In 1976 the Australian National Science Fiction Convention established the William Atheling, Jr. Award for criticism.

Awards: Hugo (1959, novel).

Pseudonyms: William Atheling, Jr.,Donald Laverty, Marcus Lyons, John MacDougal, Arthur Merlyn, Luke Torley.

Father Ruiz-Sanchez was a dedicated man - a priest who was also a scientist, and a scientist who was also a human being. He found no insoluble conflicts in his beliefs or in his ethics until he was sent to Lithia. There he came upon a race of aliens - reptilian in form - who were admirable in every way except for their total reliance on cold reason, the were incapable of faith or belief.
