Bio:

Collaborated with Stanley Kubrick on 2001: A Space Odyssey, writting the novel at the same time as Kubrick wrote the screenplay, giving each other feeback and revisions. In wasn't clear until the end wether the movie or the book would come out first (the movie did) Clarke had a small cmaeo in the sequel 2010: Odyssey Two

Born in Minehead, England. Became interested in science and gadget-building as a young boy. When he was fourteen he began reading SF magazines such as Amazing and Astounding and at fifteen began writing for his school magazine, eventually becoming it's assistand editor. At nineteen he moved to London where he meet other SF writers and became treasurer for the british Interplanetary Society. He wrote for and edited fan magazines, eventually selling articles to Tales of Wonder in 1938.

During World War II he served in the RAF and during this period he came up with the idea for artificial satellite, publishing an article called "Extraterestial Relays" in 1945 in Wireless World. Also during this period he began selling to the American market.
He graduated with a B.Sc. in physics and maths from King's College, London. He was Assistand Editor for Physics Abstracts until his writting began to bring in more income than his salary at which point he took up writting full-time.

Took up skin-diving in the mid 1950's and continues enjoying it still. Became paralysed after contracting polio and hitting his head and spent the next three years recovering from that.

His novel Rendezvous with Rama is currently being adapted into a film starring Morgan Freeman and directed by David Fincher.
