Icee Identification
Icee or Slurpee?
Icees are not Slurpees. Slurpees are not Icees. Don't be led astray;
use these useful tips to be sure you're gettting the real thing.
- Patronize Kmart stores, where only geniune Icees are
sold. Icees
are most fully enjoyed while one is racing to blue light specials anyway.
- Shun 7-11 stores. Those
frozen-poseurs in 7-11 cups? Those are Slurpees. Yes,
they come in more flavors and yes, you get to make your own, but your
integrity is far more valuable than the fleeting thrill of dispensing
your own frozen beverage. Isn't it?
- Look for the Icee Bear. This is the most important
rule to remember. The Icee Bear has been helping Icee lovers identify
their favorite frozen beverage since time immemorial. He appears on the
cup of every genuine Icee. If you have any doubts about what you're
drinking, think of this useful poem, which was found lovingly
embroidered on a sampler circa 1820:
Take a page from my book: ere you drink, take a look
For a bear on the cup that you've bought.
If the bear isn't there, it's unfair to declare
That you're drinking an Icee; you're not!
