Alcazar No discussion of the Dominican Republic should begin without a discussion of the Spanish influence. Built without the use of a single nail, the Alcazar de Colon (in Santo Domingo) was constructed in 1510 to 1514 by order of Don Diego Columbus (Columbus's son) during his tenure as viceroy. It was once a crumbling ruin.
