"It just slipped through." -- Edward Szeto's lawyer Alice Barkley on why the permit for the Burger King at Fell and Divisadero was not on the computers during the appeal period. (The exact same thing happened at the Inner Sunset location!)
"The public has reason for concern; it should have an opportunity to have a say in this project. (The outside of Szeto's) store on Ninth and Irving is extremely filthy; there's garbage everywhere and an odor." -- Planning Board President Hector Chinchilla, 10/6/97
"This is to request that you be a "good neighbor" and take immediate steps to comply with these provisions of the planning code. Perhaps, more frequent cleaning of ventilation equipment filters will cure the problem. Failure to comply coulld result in this Department taking the enforcement actions contained in Section 176 of the Code (copy enclosed)....I hope that the odors will be contained quickly so that there will be no need for further action by this department." --Robert W. Passmore, Assistant Director of Planning; letter to Edward Szeto dated June 17.1997
"I was told by Judge Richard Kramer's legal assistant that Harry's intentional violation of the restraining order is by itself in contempt of court which should allow the police department to obtain a warrant to arrest Harry, let alone he had also assaulted my customers and employees on different occasions all of which were witnessed. The lack of drastic action taken by the police department will only cause continuous exodus of employees and loss of customers which ultimately results in loss of business which I will not allow to happen at all costs. I trust you will be able to obtain an arrest warrant from the District Attorney's office shortly, and keep the law and order fully enforced in San Francisco." -- Edward Szeto, letter to Officer Robert Putz, Sept. 19, 1997
